The Citadel of Namur - Incredible underground passages

Napoleon nicknamed it the ""termite mound of Europe"" for its imposing network of underground passages. The Citadel of Namur opens to visitors a network of 500 meters of restored galleries. An immersive visit, with sounds and lights, into the bowels of the Citadel.

The Citadel of Namur opens onto 80 hectares of green spaces. Located near the city center, it offers magnificent views of the Walloon capital and the Meuse valley.

A vast underground network

The guided tour highlights the historical aspect and allows you to perceive the importance of the work carried out for the creation of such a network. The guide's explanations are enhanced by 3D animations , projections and sound effects .

Terra Nova Visitor Center

In the former Terra Nova barracks, the Visitor Center retraces 2,000 years of European urban and military history through the history of Namur and its citadel, offering a reflection on the societies of yesterday and today today and tomorrow. It can be visited freely or accompanied by a guide.

The cable car

  • Since Saturday May 8, 2021, you can take the Namur cable car from the heart of the city or from the Esplanade de la Citadelle.

  • The cable car crosses the Sambre and overlooks the ramparts of the Citadel to land 650 meters further, at a highest point of 103 m .

  • A journey of approximately 3-4 minutes which will transport you, suspended between heaven and earth.
